Adult Education
Friends of Literacy is committed to ensuring that adults in our community have the education they need to be successful in life and work. Our Adult Reading, ESOL, and HiSET Prep Programs help adult learners become better readers, improve their English language proficiency and, for some, work toward attaining a high school equivalency diploma by increasing their overall level of knowledge. During COVID, our students are working remotely with trained volunteer tutors via videoconference, phone, and email, and many also are using online platforms to support their learning.

Child and Family Literacy
Friends of Literacy is committed to helping break the intergenerational cycle of poverty and illiteracy in our community by providing high-quality literacy services for children and families. Our Family Literacy Program, launched Fall 2019, aims to provide parents with resources to help children become better readers, increase time spent reading together in the home, and help families build a home library, all of which improve literacy levels of children. Our Reading Mentors Program, launched Fall 2020, helps struggling young readers achieve first-grade level reading proficiency, using the Story Mentors curriculum developed by the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.

Friends of Literacy is changing lives for people in our community with programs that help individuals obtain their GED or HiSet, improve their reading skills and provide free literacy education.
