Linda’s Story- Cerebral Palsy Center

Linda was born with Cerebral Palsy, and as a result has lived with a severe seizure disorder and intellectual disabilities for her entire life. Due to these conditions, Linda had a difficult time with mobility and access to healthy food and eventually developed obesity. Her physical and mental disabilities caused Linda to suffer from several traumatic falls when she found the Cerebral Palsy Center, and they helped to lift her back up.

At the center, workers developed a schedule of activities for Linda that focused on safe physical activity and improving her nutrition. They helped her join the YMCA, and the center’s staff took her swimming there 3 times a week- which became Linda’s new favorite activity, and gave her something fun and healthy to look forward too. As she continued to engage in physical activity and learn how to make better food choices, Linda saw incredible improvements and has lost over 40 pounds so far. Her improved health has increased her mobility, reduced the frequency of her falls, and now Linda is happier and healthier than ever.

United Way of Greater Knoxville is proud to partner with and support the Cerebral Palsy Center, which works to improve and change the lives of those living with cerebral palsy in the Greater Knoxville area. Together, United Way and the Cerebral Palsy Center fight to ensure the health and happiness of everyone living with CP in our community. Change doesn’t happen alone. To live better, we must LIVE UNITED.
